Grado Labs have announced that they’ve started shipping the Grado GS1000 full-sized headphones.
The GS1000 are the Grado’s new flagship headphones and they’re proud of them “The Grado Statement GS1000 has been on the drawing board for sometime, and we have to admit that this is our finest effort to date.”
These headphones aren’t an ordinary set of cans and for your $1000 you get a mahogany air chamber and larger ear cushions that let your ear sit inside the cushions to give a more expansive sound.
They’ve also redesigned the driver to improve the sound quality and give a more balanced sound.
Although these headphones are way beyond the budget of most people, if you really want as close to the “perfect” sound as possible, this could be the way to go.

[…] Grado Labs has started shipping the GS1000: The new flagship of their headphone line, introduced at the International Head-Fi Convention in New York, where it gathered some rave reviews. Bass, mids, highs; it seems it does all equally well and the new cushion design is supposed to be very comfortable. Is this ideal pair of cans? I’ll scour the Web for some decent reviews and see what the answer is. [via”] […]

Bought a low-end grado SR-60. Sound great BUT hate the cord and the head piece. First thing I did after using it for a month was bought a cheap headphone w/ GOOD head piece. Replaceed Grado’s F-grade headpiece w/ some minor modifications. After bout 2 years of use the cords where it splits and goes to the speakers got hard. Replaced w/ a longer but smaller chord. Desoldered them from Grado’s speakers and soldered new ones in.
Result: Speakers are the only thing of Grado.
Will not buy another Grado unless willing to modify those two things.

xTranJer: Grado do offer some very unusual looking (and feeling) headphones. I guess it’s either love them or hate them.
