New York Times writer David Pogue has an interesting round-up of 9 noise-canceling headphones. The article compares headphones like the JVC HA-NC100, the Logitech Noise Canceling Headphones and the Sennheiser PXC 450 against the market leading Quiet Comfort 2 and Quiet Comfort 3 from Bose.

As expected, Pogue has the Bose models as his favorite but does rate the Panasonic RP-HC500 and Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 as being right up there. It’s an interesting read and shows that you can get almost match the Bose Quiet Comforts and for a lot less money.

Thanks to the very generous people over at HeadCandi, Headphone News have two great pairs of Sennheiser headphones to give away to our readers.

First up is the wireless RS110 (pictured). Worth £44.99, these headphones have a 100 metre range making them great for watching movies or listening to music in the house or (my favorite) out in the garden.

The last time I saw a review for the Sennheiser PXC 300 noise canceling headphones was way back in October and it was far from flatering. Gautam at Tablet PC Review has done a more recent review of these ‘phones and although it’s more positive, the write up still finds some problems.

Starting with the negative, Gautam has some problems with the design, particularly the in-line battery and noise-canceling circuitry. It’s also noted that the bass is very weak on these headphones which wasn’t something that Pocket Lint picked up on in the previous review. Despite these problems, Gautam does like these headphones with the mids and highs being praised in particular. Sounds like this is a definite try-before-you-buy, if possible.

I have to admit to having never really understood the point of wireless headphones (maybe it’s because I don’t live with my parents anymore?) but The Tech Lounge’s review of the Sennheiser RS130 Wireless Headphones has started to change my mind.

The reviewer is left particularly impressed with the sound quality of these headphones, although you should expect that for a $150 set of cans. They also appear to have little problems with interference, a common problem with wireless audio. Overall, they sound like a good buy.

Wired have posted a short review of the Sennheiser LX 90 headphones, a member of their new Style family.

Unfortunately, it’s not great and these phones receive a lowly 3 out of 10 with the lack of bass a real problem. It looks like this could be a set of ‘phones to avoid.

Australian newspaper The Age have a quick round up of four headphones that anyone thinking of getting a set of headphones as a last minute Christmas present should check out.

First up is the Skullcandy Skullcrushers which are awarded a lowly 2 out of 5 due to their overwhelming (and over-vibrating) bass. Slightly better are the Sennheiser MX90VC receiving 3.5 out of 5 but much worse are the Creative SL3100 which only get 1 out of 5.

Finally, and best of all, are the Bose Quiet Comfort 3 recieving 4 out of 5. The Age were impressed by the noise-canceling technology on these ‘phones but feel the comfort let them down.

Wes Phillips over at Stereophile.com has a review of the Sennheiser HDC 451 Noiseguard headphones that anyone interested in a pair of noise canceling headphones might want to check out.

Being a self-confessed audiophile, Wes is left a little bit cold by the sound quality of these ‘phones. As he says, they’re good but come out poorly compared to his usual headphones. However, considering the low cost of these ‘phones you can’t really expect to compete with a $1000 set of Grado GS1000’s.

On the other hand, Wes was impressed by the noise-canceling capabilities of the HDC 451’s. He recommends them for flying, using on the subway and any other time you need a bit of peace and quiet. It’s a shame he doesn’t compare them with some of the other noise-canceling headphones on the market but it’s obvious he likes the HDC 451’s capabilities.
